"We used to send away for analysis, and two weeks later they'd send the customer a report," said Dean Parker, McGriff's technical service representative. "Now we generate the reports ourselves and go over them with the customer."

That's because McGriff now has SNAPSHOT.

"The tools are simple," said Parker, who brings them to the different McGriff locations. "And the reports are impressive. They show where the problems are and let us give a solution."

Furthermore, the reports "show maintenance directors when their staff isn't performing and helps them better their program," added Parker, an ITRA instructor.

Overall, Parker said SNAPSHOT is a maintenance director's eye opener. "It sure gets their attention when you show that they're losing $70,000-$80,000. The system specifies where the money is going in and how much driver abuse the tires are getting."

"Now a maintenance director doesn't have to focus on tire wear; instead, we provide that information and the director can focus on mileage."

McGriff first tested SNAPSHOT in a fleet of 200 tractors and 500 trailers. And like most fleets in the industry, the initial inspection showed a high percentage of the tires were underinflated. Now they're 90-99 percent within inflation specs.

According to Parker, "SNAPSHOT works best with potential customers – we ask prospects for permission to gather data, we do that and cover it with them. Then they ask us to try test tires. It's helped open the doors to 70-80 customers: small medium and large."
